Coil Basket workshop
Description: While often mistaken for weaving, coiling is a distinct basketry technique. Instead of interlacing two sets of materials, you’ll be wrapping one material around a core and then stitching it in place. In this workshop, we’ll provide you with cotton cording for your core and a variety of colorful yarns to wrap it with.
Objectives: By the end of this class, you’ll have everything you need to create your own beautiful handmade baskets. You will leave with a semi-finished small basket and the skills to complete it at home in just 1-2 hours. You’ll also gain the knowledge to make as many baskets as you like in the future!
You will receive all necessary materials to create a small (about 4”-5”) basket: coil filler, a variety of yarns, and a yarn needle for “stitching” the basket.

embroidered felt ornament workshop
Felt ornaments are beautiful, handcrafted decorations often made from soft felt (wool or blend) and embellished with detailed hand stitching. They make perfect additions to holiday trees, thoughtful gifts, or unique accents year-round. While they can take virtually any shape—from stars and snowflakes to animals and initials—most consist of two pieces of felt sewn together and lightly stuffed for a soft, dimensional effect.
Objectives:
By the end of this class, you will be able to:
• Master Core Stitches: Learn and successfully execute essential embroidery
techniques, including the running stitch, back stitch, and decorative blanket stitch used for edging.
• Construct a Finished Ornament: Cut, assemble, and cleanly finish a complete ornament, including proper techniques for stuffing and attaching a hanger.
• Create Custom Designs: Gain the technical knowledge and confidence to design and create your own ornaments of any shape or size, letting your imagination run wild!
You will leave with at least one fully finished ornament and another one to finish at home.

At Crafty Andy Studio, we offer a variety of craft classes for adults and kids, including fun workshops for team building, wedding showers, and birthday parties. We believe that everyone has the potential to be an artist in our art studio. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inspiring environment where students can develop their skills in crafting, embroidery, and explore their creativity through handmade projects.
About Andy
Crafting has always been my passion. Since I was a kid, I have been tinkering with materials and creating crazy little works of art. I attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for Industrial Design, where I was exposed to every material and tool imaginable, enhancing my understanding and love of crafting. Now, I run a crafty studio where I offer various craft classes.
For the past 8 years, I've been teaching kids and absolutely love sharing what I know. Now that I've moved to Hickory, I'm excited to expand my teaching to include adult workshops and crafting parties, along with continuing my work with kids. I also have a keen interest in embroidery and creating handmade crafts.
When I'm not teaching, you will most likely find me crafting, cooking, or gardening at home!

Our craft classes at the art studio typically last between 1.30 to 2 hours, hosted at a cozy location in town such as a bar, coffee shop, or gallery. You'll receive all the materials you need to complete your project at our crafty studio. Projects include creating a coil basket, a painted tote with a DIY stencil, handmade candles, mosaics, intention jars, a stained glass pendant, and even some embroidery techniques to enhance your creations.

Our team building events at our crafty studio usually take 2-2.30 hours at your location (or designated location). You can choose from our most popular craft classes, such as painting totes or making candles. We can accommodate up to 24 participants for most of our projects, but will be happy to design a project for a larger team, including options for embroidery or other handmade activities.
Bridal Shower
Adult Workshops
Our Bridal Shower events typically last 2-2.30 hours at your location or any chosen venue. You can select from our most popular craft classes, such as painting totes, creating handmade keepsakes, or making candles at our crafty studio. Bridal groups usually consist of 8-16 participants and can also include fun activities like embroidery.
Workshops for Kids 8+
Our craft classes at the art studio generally last 1.30-2 hours and are held at various locations in town, such as an ice cream shop, outdoor space, or gallery. You will receive all the materials you need to complete your project at our crafty studio. Projects include creating a pompom bunny, painting totes or t-shirts, making stuffies or pillows, and crafting a dream catcher, all perfect for adding a touch of handmade charm to your life.
Kids Birthday Activities
Birthday parties at our crafty studio typically last 1.30-2 hours at a location you choose. Your guests will receive all the materials necessary to complete their projects, which may include fun activities from our craft classes. We also provide table covers and can bring tables if needed. This experience is perfect for kids aged 8-12, with a guest list ranging from 6-16. Projects include creating a pompom bunny, painting totes or t-shirts, making stuffies or pillows, and crafting dream catchers, allowing for plenty of handmade creativity.
Family Workshops
Our craft classes at the art studio typically last 1.30-2 hours and are hosted at various locations in town, such as an ice cream shop, outdoor space, or gallery. You will receive all the materials needed to complete your project. Parents and kids can enjoy working on themed projects like handmade gifts for Father's and Mother's Day, Halloween crafts, Christmas decorations, and special presents for teachers at our crafty studio.
